The Brownstown Agronomy Research Center is divided up into different sections consisting of small fields, hosting many various research plots. Here is a brief description of the fields, field/series numbers, field usage, and field location:
"Numbered" Series (100, 200, 300, 400)
These fields are located on a central section of the original BARC. For
many years, these fields were used for long-term fertility studies. Currently
these fields are being used for contemporary research.
"Numbered" Series (500, 600/700, 800)
These fields are located on a central section of the original BARC. Currently
these fields are being used for weed science research.
"Numbered" Series (900, 1000, 1100, 1200)
These fields are located at the central section of the original BARC. A
ten-year irrigation study was recently completed on this series of fields.
This series is currently in the process of reclamation for future research.
"C" Series: (C1, C2, C3, C4N, C4S, C5, C6, C7N, C7S, C8,
C9, C10, C11)
The "C" series of fields are also located at the central section of the
original BARC. The name "C" series was chosen due to the central location
of these fields. These fields are currently being used for various research
projects.
"E" Series: (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6)
The "E" series of fields are located at the east section of the BARC. Like
the "C" series, the "E" series name was chosen for its location at the east
section of BARC. Jordan Lewis owns the land, on which this series is located.
This series is mostly used by weed science research.
"B" Series: (B1, B2, B3N, B3S, B4, B5NA, B5NB, B5S,
B6N, B6S)
The "B" series is the newest addition to the BARC. It is located at the
west section of the BARC. Recently purchased from the Biggs family farm,
this series was properly named, "B" series.
"O" Series: (O1, O2)
The "O" series is located at a south section of the BARC. This series was
established in 1998 for long term, alternate cropping studies.
"N" Series (N1, N2)
The "N" series is located north of the BARC, and like the other series,
gets its name from field location. It was previously used for long term tillage
programs. Floyd Bingaman currently owns the "N"
series property.
"Biggs" Series (Biggs N, Biggs W, Biggs E)
Owned by the Biggs family farm, this series of fields is located west of
the BARC. BARC started leasing this property in 1997, which makes it the
newest research series addition.
"Hoover" Series (NW, S, NE)
The "Hoover" series is located 1.5 miles west of the BARC, and is owned
by Judy Hoover. The "N" series consists of 12 acres used for long term soil
productivity index rating reassessment.
