Gift Opportunities

In addition to the Scholarships and Fellowships described previously, the Department provides a number of current use funds or endowments targeted to support specific student or research programs and activities. These include:

Faculty Research Programs
Gift funds from individuals and companies can be targeted to specific Crop Sciences faculty in support of their research programs. These funds will be available for immediate use and are instrumental in supporting research specific to the faculty's area of expertise. The Department of Crop Sciences will direct 10% of the funds to sustain department wide activities that support the mission of the department, including administrative and systems support.

Department of Crop Sciences Annual Fund
Gifts to this fund support the departmental awards program for undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and academic professionals. In addition, gifts to this fund help the department provide equipment needed to recruit new faculty.

Field & Furrow Undergraduate Club Program Fund
Gifts to this fund support the programmatic activities of Field & Furrow undergraduate student organization. Key programmatic activities include sponsorship of professional development programs, field trips to facilities of food and agricultural industries, and travel to scientific and professional meetings or workshops.

Crop Sciences Undergraduate Ambassadors Fund
Gifts to this fund support the programs of the Crop Sciences Ambassadors. The Ambassadors are Crop Sciences undergraduate students who are active in the recruitment of prospective undergraduate students on- and off-campus, and who participate in leadership development programs.

Crop Sciences Graduate Organization Program Fund
Gifts to this fund support the programmatic activities of the department's Graduate Student Organization. Key programmatic activities include hosting and recruitment of prospective graduate students, networking programs, participation in community outreach efforts, and field trips to facilities of food and agricultural industries.

Graduate Student Professional Development Fund
Gifts to this fund support the sponsorship of professional development programs for graduate students, and travel to scientific and professional meetings or workshops.

Off-Campus Graduate Studies Program Fund
Gifts to this fund support the development of instructional materials and purchase of instructional software and hardware used in the department's Off-Campus Graduate Studies Program, a program in which fully-employed professionals can earn a M. S. degree or a Certificate of Completion by taking advanced courses part-time at nights at various locations around the State.

Undergraduate Student Program Fund
Gifts to this program support the development of instructional materials and purchase of instructional software and hardware used in the undergraduate curriculum. Examples of instructional materials are videotapes, digital video disks, and compact disks with broad application in laboratories and discussion sections.

Graduate Student Seminar Program Fund
Gifts to this program help to defray the expenses of invited speakers from educational and research institutions to participate in the seminar programs required of graduate students in the department. These seminar programs are an important mechanism for bringing scientific leaders to campus to speak and discuss their research with graduate students.

Illinois Maize Breeding & Genetics Laboratory Endowment
Gifts to this endowment support the operational requirements of the corn breeding and genetics programs in the department by allowing the purchase of equipment needed for field and laboratory research, by funding the salaries of support personnel on the breeding programs, and by funding fellowships for graduate students in corn breeding and genetics.
