PC Software Update Checklist

• Automated IBM/Lenovo Notebook patches (See System Software Installer 3) (other manufactures may have something similar)
• Device Driver updates for Dell or other PC
• Bios Updates (very machine specific)
  
  
• CCleaner installed and setup
• Defrag files (built in or Defraggler)
  
• VirusScan 8.5 and Patch 6.1 -Note that 8.5 includes a Spyware Module
• Microsoft Windows Defender (www.microsoft.com/downloads)
• Ad-Aware Pro - Discontinued: remove and replace with VirusScan 8.5 Spyware module and Windows Defender
• SpyBot 1.6 (weekly updates to definition files)(don't install the Registry protection)
• Install MalwareBytes

• Move from Windows Update to Microsoft Update, check Office updates
• Install XP Service Pack 3 or Vista Service Pack 1

• Eudora 7.1.0.9 or the last Version 6 Eudora 6.2.5.6 for PC's and Version 6.2.3 for Mac

• Firefox 3.0.3
• Thunderbird 2.0.0.17
• Seamonkey 1.1.9

• Adobe Acrobat and Reader Version 9 (please remove versions older than 8.1.2 of this software and replace) (all Adobe products are now on the CITES webstore - Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver and so on).
  
  
• Java (Run Time or Developer) Version 6, level 7 (and remove any old versions you don't need)

• Quicktime 7.5.x (plus updates for security patches)
• I Tunes 8.x (plus updates for security patches)
  
• Set up Apple Updater excluding any software not desired (such as Safari)

• Flashplayer 10 for IE
• Flashplayer 10 for Firefox and other browsers
• Adobe Shockwave 11

• Retrospect Express 1.1 (for external backup devices) or Version 2.0
• Retrospect Client (for client server backup) 7.5.116 (works with earlier versions of the server software)

• Realplayer 11 plus updates for any security patches

• Winamp 5.5x

• Cisco VPN 5.0.03 or new UIUC VPN client (www.cites.uiuc.edu/vpn)
• New CITES Secure Wireless configuration (http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/wireless)

• Dreamweaver 8.02 or new version Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 or CS4

• WordPerfect 12 and WordPerfect X3 service packs
• WeatherWatcher 5.6.34 (also a version 6 beta)

• Googletoolbar for IE and/or Firefox (not the other pieces – avoid Google Desktop!)
