Statistics Lab/N120 Turner Hall Rules
The Usual Stuff
- Installing, Altering, or Copying of Software is Prohibited. No Food or Drink.
- Facility is for faculty, staff and student use only. No game playing. Reservations have priority.
- Please use a computer that is already turned on if possible. To turn on a machine, switch on the monitor first, followed by the desktop unit. Once a computer is on, please leave it on. To turn off or restart a machine, please use Start/Shutdown or Start/Restart.
- Please save all of your work to zip disk or diskette, as space will be cleared regularly. Files can be saved temporarily in the c:\labtemp subdirectory. The c:\labtemp subdirectory will be erased every weekend.
- Please return headphones to hook and clean up your work area when finished.
Printing
- There is a self-service HP 4050 Printer for which you must provide an account by swiping your I Card at the print monitor and identifying your print job. The system configures itself in blocks of $5.00 charged to your UFAS account or Students Accounts Receivable (SAR). You will be billed at 5 cents per page.
- Print job status can be determined from the printer monitor at the Release Station computer found at the front of the room under the name of your computer (eg. ManU) that is printed on your lower right on your computer. If your document does not print, please do not resubmit -- please see a TA or site attendant first or send e-mail. Please do not close the windows on the Release Station though if you find them closed, press both buttons on the mouse simultaneously and reopen the window from the menu that appears on screen.
Software/E-mail/Telnet
- UNIX accounts can be accessed from a secure telnet client in the Internet Services Group called Secure Shell Client and selecting "quick connect" to students.uiuc.edu or staff.uiuc.edu.
- Webmail is available via Internet Explorer at webmail.uiuc.edu
- Office 2000, Arc GIS 8 and 3.2, SAS and several other items are available from separate program groups.
Safe Computing
- Virus protection software (McAfee VirusScan) has been installed on all computers in N120. Any file accessed with a virus should pop up a warning. In some cases, cleaning will be possible (you may be prompted for options) or by using the virus removal software in the Internet Services Group under Network Associates/VirusScan. Contact a TA or site attendant for further help or to remove the virus.
Questions and Comments can be directed to staff in M103 Turner or to Charlie Smyth, N219 Turner
